Are Netbooks new grants bad for open networks?
AT & T plans to offer subsidized netbooks for $ 50 (and Moreover, according to the model the customer chooses) raises interesting questions. The most fundamental is what it means for the debate on open access.
As its name suggests, open access is the ability for customers to link any device that technical reviews of the carrier network. Verizon Wireless and AT & T has paid tribute to the concept and indeed, some devices – target = "_blank"> particularly in the area of machine-to-machine – they employ.
This week, as PC Magazine reports, and other AT & T said customers who opt for two years, Wi-Fi and 3G plans will be able to buy Acer Aspire One, Dell Inspiron, LG Xenia or 9 or 12 for Mini Mini between $ 49.99 and $ 249.99, although the exact price of each were not disclosed.
Of course, the fact that companies are moving the concept of subsidizing netbooks phones does not mean that free access is dead. But shows that companies although the concept of ownership, and are probably willing to spend money in order to marginalize the approaches that make it easier for customers to come van. PC Magazine says:
Subsidize phones has been the norm for several years, with street vendors to eat the cost of telephone equipment in exchange for the opportunity to charge users of voice and data packages and increase sales of services. But subsidizing netbooks is relatively new and remains to be seen whether consumers will see in a netbook like any other device that is ready to retire to a contract for the property.
Verizon Wireless also is on board with the sale of subsidized netbooks, though details are sketchy. InformationWeek reports that the company has confirmed a previous report that Reuters will provide equipment. The piece said that no further information was available. It is concrete with speculation that the company expects Dell and HP, including the Mini HM 1000.
Smartphones and netbooks are coming too. Datamation Mike Elgan is delivered and the speculative ground. He said netbooks are sold very well, but they are no longer welcome fairly quickly. He explained why and said that the challenges must be met to avoid the PC operating systems for systems operating system used to power smart phones. It describes the reason for this, and it seems convincing. Again, using a telephone OS in smart gun is not smoking a netbook, pointing to the death of the concept of open network. certainly seems a step in the opposite direction, however. Elgan says
The mobile phone model – or to give high subsidies on mobile phones in exchange for a commitment two years in a wireless contract – excellent work for netbooks. AT & T and other companies have announced special sections to review such agreements.
The conclusion is that open networks are not carriers of interest because they loosen the reins they hold subscriber. game plan of the carrier will target = "_blank"> convince the FCC – which is much more difficult for the industry because of elections – And use their machines relations important for the public. It will also offer customers an excellent agreement in the right device hot in exchange their loyalty to their networks.
