RE news item: ‘173mph driver’ spared jail term — Did the Cops ever notice that the claimed speed of 173mph…?

if it was actually clocked as ‘kilometers per hour’ through accidentally being on the wrong setting, would be almost exactly what the guy ultimately agreed he was doing (i.e. 105 mph).
173 kph = 107 mph
(Sounds like the Constable’s had their radar gun set on the Kilometers per hour setting! Pity this didn’t seem to get a mention as the likely fault in the trial as it would have explained everything!)

Don’t believe everything you read in the newspapers.

First of all the speeder had already pleaded guilty to speeding, he had accepted guilt but disputed the exact speed.

Secondly the speeder was represented by a barister so do you not think that he would have considered this defence and used it if it were remotely possible. I am sure he did and he discovered that UK Police do not use devices that can record speed in KM/H for this very reason.

What really happened in court was that the speeders defence “suggested” that the Lotus, in an unmodified state, running on normal fuel would not achieve the stated speed. That was an important assertion because a Lotus can be modified and run on alternate fuel to significantly improve it’s performance.

Interestingly the speeder claimed that he had sold the Lotus shortly after the offence and exported to Germany, so the account put forward could not be checked! Wasn’t that handy for his defence!

I think there is a clue as to this man’s honesty when he told the Judge that he only earns £10,000 per year, if that is so how can he afford a Lotus?

The speed of 105 M.P.H. was simply a compromised figure / speed agreed between the defence and prosecution baristers to avoid the public purse the expence of commisioning an expert to go to Germany to examine the car.

If you saw the smile on the speeders face as he left Court you too would appreciate that he knew he had got off lightly.

Salt Lake City Toyota News: Toyota Sienna gets hip in 2011

My wife and I have talked about this and we agreed that minivans are definitely NOT cool! We have made a pact that we will not be those people and have so far managed to stick with the SUV or car as a family vehicle.

Salt Lake City Toyota Sienna dealers have something that just might change our minds, though. The 2011 Toyota Sienna line offers all the choices one could hope for and so many cool things that you actually forget it is a mini van.

There are five separate trims for the 2011 Sienna and some of them are pretty awesome. From the carpool/soccer rut to a ride you want to take out on the town, the options are amazing. The choices include the base model, LE, SE, XLE and Limited. Buyers of Salt Lake City used cars will want to check out all these amenities.

This van is more affordable, has an optional 4-cylinder engine and can even be had with reclining second-row seats. Front-wheel drive is standard and the all-wheel drive comes with the V6 engine on the LE, XLE and Limited models. The LE standards include 4-speaker stereo with CD, an auxiliary input jack, tri-zone air conditioning and 17-alloy wheels. With the V-6 version comes a power rear door, dual power sliding doors, a power driver’s seat, XM Satellite Radio, USB port and Bluetooth cell phone, streaming music capability and additional speakers. Other features are the multi-information display with back-up camera, rear window sunshades, fog lights and 19-inch wheels.

Moving up to the XLE trim you will find leather upholstery a sunroof and heated front seats. The Limited Edition Sienna has those coveted reclining second-row seats, front and rear park assist, a power third-row seat, keyless access and starting, dual sunroofs and Safety Connect telematics service. Sounds cool to me!

Then there are the options, which will have buyers of any Salt Lake City Toyota Sienna practically drooling, even if they aren’t those kind of people. A 10-speaker JBL sound system will have you sounding cool and a navigation system with voice control will make sure you look cool by never taking a wrong turn. The panoramic rear camera, radar cruise control, HID automatic high-beam headlights, rear DVD entertainment system for those long family trips and rain-sensing wipers round out the ultimate minivan.

Of course, we have safety in mind, and for a parent that affects the cool factor of any vehicle. Safety equipment that comes standard includes side-curtain airbags for all three rows of seating, dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, driver’s knee airbag, active front head restraints, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, tire-pressure monitor and electronic stability control. Then there are many options on top of this! Customers of Salt Lake City used cars need to consider the new Sienna.

The verdict is in: the 2011 Toyota Sienna is a cool minivan!

How to use Satellite Direct?

I recently downloaded satellite direct so I can watch streaming tv on my laptop. It said there was over 3500 channels so i figured there would be something i could watch. Now that I have it I have no idea how to find channels that actually show tv. Last night I was trying to find the nfl game and all i could get was old news and radar pictures could somebody tell me how to effectively use satellite direct.

Hi There!

I just bought the same software a couple of days ago for my laptop as well. All I can say is, you know the old saying? If it is too good to be true it probably is.

This product is a very simple front end to a lot of so called HD (not!) television channels that could be obtained for free if you scour the web yourself. They must have some central server that gathers up all this stuff and streams it to their suckers, I mean customers.

I tried many, many channels of their so called 3500 channels. Looked there was a couple of 100 channels, maybe. Nothing but rubbish. Very little worth watching at all. lots of old news, lame web cams, advertising, weather channels, government/political stuff and foreign content that I would have no hope of understanding anyways. Would you believe a show about goat herders in Uzbekistan?? Please don’t get me wrong I have nothing against goat herders in Uzbekistan! I just don’t think that it makes for a great nights TV for an English speaking gent like me! But I digress!

If you can’t connect to a particular channel (which is often!) their viewing window comes up with this Truveo garbage web page which another piece of software junk I have to load for my Internet Explorer. I use Firefox only! Then Truveo advertises many, many shows (some good shows I might add) that have to be viewed from the Hulu website. Huh! I thought Satellite Direct was supposed to provide this content. Any real quality content, ESPN, Showtime, HBO is not even available through their product. Read the Terms of Service page.

Yes, this product is an unmitigated pile garbage and soon as I can I am going to try to get my money back. If I can.

Hope this helps!
