Beryl McBurnie (d. March 3, 2000) was a Trinidadian dance legend. She established the Little Carib Theatre, and promoted the culture and arts of Trinidad and Tobago as her life’s work. McBurnie helped to promote the cultural legitimacy of Trinidad and Tobago that would ultimately arm its people to handle independence psychologically and healthily. Beryl McBurnie dedicated her life to dance, becoming one of the greatest influences on modern Trinidadian popular culture.

Sir Trevor McDonald OBE is a Trinidadian-born British newsreader and journalist. He is a news presenter with ITN, notable for having been the first black news reader in the UK. He has won more awards than any other British reporter.
McDonald was knighted in 1999 for his services to journalism.

Rudolph Walker, OBE is a British character actor. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Walker came to the United Kingdom in 1960.
His first major television role was as a policeman in the British drama The Wednesday Play, in the episode titled “Fable” (aired 27 January 1965). He is known for his comedic roles in Love Thy Neighbour, The Thin Blue Line and in Ali G Indahouse. He also appeared in Doctor Who, in the 1969 serial The War Gamesbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb. He was one of the first black actors to be seen regularly on British television, and has always been proud of his role on the controversial Love Thy Neighbour as a result.

He was the main British-based R&B singer / songwriter of the 1980s. Pete Louis Vincent de Freitas (d. 14 June 1989) was a musician and producer, best known as a drummer with Echo & the Bunnymen.
De Freitas was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and educated by the Benedictines at Downside School. He joined the Bunnymen in 1979. He died in a motorcycle accident in 1989 at the age of 27, on his way to Liverpool from London. His ashes are buried in Goring-on-Thames.
His twin sisters Rose and Rachel were founding members of the band The Heart Throbs.
His brother Frank is the bass player of The Woodentops.

Glenroy John Gilbert (born in Port of Spain) is a Canadian former athlete, winner of gold medal in 4×100 m relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Glenroy Gilbert formed along with Robert Esmie, Bruny Surin and Donovan Bailey the best 4×100 m relay team in the mid-1990s.
Gilbert made his debut at the major international championships at the 1988 Summer Olympics, where he was 21 in the Long Jump. At the 1990 Commonwealth Games, Gilbert was eighth in long jump and reached to the semifinal as a member of Canadian 4×100 m relay team at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Gilbert won his first medal at the 1993 World Championships, when the Canadian 4×100 m relay team finished in a third place. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games, Gilbert won the gold medal in 4×100 m relay and was fifth in 100 m. Gilbert also competed in bobsleigh at 1994 Winter Olympics, where he finished fifteenth in two-man bobsled and eleventh in four-man bobsled.
In 1995, Gilbert won a gold medal in 100 m at the Pan-American Games and was a member of gold medal winning Canadian 4×100 m relay team at the 1995 World Championships.
At the Atlanta Olympics, the Canadian relay team weren’t the hot favourites, although they won almost all the titles available during the last couple of years. At the 4×100 m relay final, the Canadian team beat United States by almost half a second, to establish itself the best relay team in the world. Gilbert also reached the quarterfinal of 100m.
Gilbert and the Canadian team won a gold medal again at the 1997 World Championships and at the 1998 Goodwill Games, but again in absence of United States. At the 1999 World Championships the Canadian team were disqualified in semifinal and Gilbert ended his running career after the 2000 Summer Olympics, where the Canadians were eliminated in the semifinal.
After his retirement, Gilbert worked for a short time in CBC radio in Ottawa and is now a coach of Canadian 4×100 m relay team. He is also a coach for the Ottawa Lions Track & Field club, where he coaches sprints and relays.
In 2008 he was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 1996 Summer Olympics 4×100 relay team.

I saw on CBC news that there were rallies and protests and songs in Ottawa by activists demanding immediate reductions in greenhouse gasses.
Some 200 countries are putting pressure on the Governments that will be meeting in Copenhagen to discuss climate change as the Kyoto agreement is expiring.
Is Canada doing enough to respond effectively to climate change? Would Canada’s climate change policy be stronger if the Liberal Party replaced Harper?
When can there be another Federal Election in Canada?
Gee! Responding to the people’s wants and needs got written out of the Conservative mandate about an hour after they were voted in. They are much better at responding to the wants and needs of their friends in big business. And responding to the greenhouse problem is financially dangerous to big businesses. So the short answer to your question is No. Why do today what can be put off until we have reached the point of no return?
Would we be doing more if the Liberals were in? Who knows. A politician is a politician regardless of what colour hat he wears. But they might take a few more stabs at the problem just to keep the masses quiet. That little bit is more than we are presently getting so the definitive answer to that question is – Maybe for a while.
The last election was an expensive farce and a joke. Mr Harper wanted a majority and oops! Didn’t happen. What a ball buster! Oh well The taxpayer will pick up the tab for that mistake. And, being as how he does not learn from his mistakes, he kept threatening us with another until the Liberals tried to take him up on his offer. Maybe one day the entire lot of them will stop playing one-up-manship games and get down to the business of running the country and dealing with real issues instead of their own personality flaws. Each and every one of them (politicians, I mean) is nothing more than the best argument for abortion there is.
