Aondoakaa: A Curse Or Blessing To Nigeria?

By the time you finish reading this article you will have been able to supply an answer to the question posed to you above. It is no longer news that Nigeria has been churning out people who pose as leaders. It is incredible and difficult ascertaining where these people forced on us as our leaders are brought from. In recent times, undue controversies trail how security agencies and how the nation should be run, whether on vacuum or not have made popular yet another man in the person of Michael Aondoakaa. Aondoakaa has infamously become a household name for himself among the innocent people of Nigeria who want to see the nation move forward.

This man appointed as the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the nation is a wonderful gift to the people of Nigeria in disguise. The Tiv-born legal practitioner rarely sees the Nigerian affairs the way other good Nigerian do. It is surprising that Tiv land has contributed such a man to the nation, yet no single indigene of the ethnic group has called on him to respect the wishes of the ordinary Nigerians who are peace-loving citizens. Hilary Clinton was not mistaken when she warned that bad leadership will negatively impact on the youths of the nation. The leaders of the nation have not realized that if the doors of the nation are thrown open every citizen especially the youths will desert this nation leaving them behind to govern themselves. The People are generally tired of these kinds of leaders who don’t consider the interest of the ordinary masses.

It is quite germane to study the tribal background of the man called Michael Aondoakaa. Aondoakaa was appointed the Minister of Justice and Attorney General by President Umaru Yar’Adua and since then the man believes that all he owes the country is blind loyalty to the man who appointed him and not Nigerians therefore the overall interest of the people is not his concern as this article shall correctly demonstrate with regard to his contributions towards the vacuum presently created by the absence of his Boss, President Yar’Adua and the powers sought by him to control the EFCC and other security bodies in the country. Turai Yar’Adua is not left out in this race of time.

The Tiv are ethnic nation in Nigeria mainly found in Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa and FCT regions of Nigeria. According to Wikipedia the Encyclopedia, they constitute about 2.5% of Nigeria’s total population. It is this Tiv group has given us Michael Aondoakaa and a host of others including the NDLEA, EFCC and NAFDAC Bosses. The newly sworn in Chief Justice is also from Tiv. These are all our gifts from Tivland.

It is hard to understand Aondoakaa’s stand on every national issue. In the crisis occasioned by the absence of President Yar’Adua who now sojourns in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Aondoakaa has defended all the suits filed against the President so that pundits wonder where he derives his briefs from. Interestingly, he has won every one of these briefs leaving political observers in the country to wonder just how brilliant a lawyer he is yet Nigeria lost the Bakassi Peninsular to cameroun. Where was he?

Now that ovation is loudest on why Yar’Adua must respect section 145 of the nation’s constitution, Aondoakaa’s stance is that senate and indeed, anybody else can only urge the president and not compel him to transmit power to his deputy. What a reasoning that sometimes leaves citizens of other nations wondering whether these kinds of leaders see things exactly the way other good Nigerians do. As Save Nigeria Group (SNG) led by Pastor Tunde Bakare has risen to the occasion, as Eminent Elders Group which included past Heads of States, Justices, ex-senate leader and others has spoken in favour of what is right. As indeed the international community comprising of USA, Britain, and a host of European Union members have warned that the law itself which Aondoakaa claims to worship abhors vacuum and now Dora Akunyili, Aondoakaa is still seeing things differently and acting differently too because power is sweet, and absolute power is sweeter.

It is amazing how power don’t allow these kinds of people to see and consider the welfare of the citizens. They only wait and allow the worse to happen before crying “had I known”. An appeal should go to all well meaning and illustrious sons and daughters to advise their own son and kinsmen Michael Aondoakaa to respect the wishes of the people and let peace rein in the land which Jehovah God has given us. Nigerians are hungry but they need peace, Nigerians are poverty-stricken but they need peace. The leaders of the nation have contributed nothing to make life meaningful but leadership vacuum is not the best.

This article is summed up with an event which occurred on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa. In that Mining Indaba Conference, a prominent American economist and speaker, David Hale insulted Nigeria when he said that President Yar’Adua is ill and Nigeria may not survive in six month’s time. Such is what Aondoakaa wishes the country, a laughing stock in the hands of other countries. Thank you, Aondoakaa!
