being a former military person, I look at the situation from a battle point of view, so I think:

Since we have created a multi billion dollar agency called “Department of Homeland security” the need of a pilot using a gun on an aircraft is very small.

as part of the security on a plane (which should be negligible if the homeland security are doing their job) you also have Air Marshall.

If things got to a point where a pilot has to stop monitoring/flying the plane, things are already out of hand. that means that the bad guy has got through a system that taxpayers are paying millions to have, and also disarmed or killed the Air marshals too.

So I can see where a pilot with a gun is really a dumb idea.

The map we have all been waiting for is now available and it is a map that the government of China does not want you to see. The map consists of the true picture of the massive pollution and dead zones in and around China. Much of this information is either already known or already expected, however this map is very telling and it is something that must be discussed if we are going to have talks on eliminating or curtailing the amount of CO2 that the human race puts out in the atmosphere each year.

The global leadership meeting in Bali has finally agreed that emerging nations that pollute must also be held accountable. Previously, Bill Clinton and Al Gore had spoken that global warming and most of the CO2 emissions were caused from the United States of America and that emerging nations like China and India should not be forced into the stringent guidelines of the Kyoto treaty. Nevertheless, The Bush Administration was not interested in talking about curbing pollution unless China and India both came to the table.

The map of the pollution in China it includes water pollution caused by the giant dam project, manufacturing chemicals dumped into the Yangtze River, and the giant dead zones off the coast of both Beijing and Shanghai. It also included the tremendous air pollution being caused by manufacturing, power plants, and transportation. One blogger stated from China:

The environment is what humans depend on for survival, but some corporations, businesspeople, and even multinational corporations, in the name of efficiency, completely overlook it altogether. Unless our leaders and respective officials have fallen asleep at the wheel, why haven’t state management institutions brought this under control? Because our laws and regulations remain unable to keep up with development, and the leaders think only of being at the forefront.

The top story on today’s Newsmax and Saturday’s New York Times were reports on the quality of water in which Chinese seafood grows. The headline was: ‘Chinese Commercial Fish from Toxic Waters. One look at this headline and I though, ‘just when toys had quieted down for a while, now marine products are gonna get it.

Of course, the big deal right now is the Beijing Olympics, already there are plans to clear the air during the Olympic Games and one way they plan on doing this is to stop allowing vehicles to drive around two weeks before the Olympic Games, so the air is pure and clean when everyone comes to visit. Some environmentalists say that is no different than putting lipstick on a pig. The Online Think Tank, just laughed and said what do you expect, this would be typical procedure from China.

China has been closing factories and putting bigger taxes on polluters and corporations, but will this be enough? China is growing and it needs more oil and coal to run power plants and transportation. Factories need more energy, and a growing middle-class will put greater demands on the environment – how much more can it take? Environmental deaths from health diseases in China is now over a million persons per year and the serious health issues will only create more problems down the road. Something to contemplate in 2008.
