Or is it?
Would it be a surprise to find out that Indianapolis was one of the worst places in America to have a happy and successful marriage? It seems that young married couples don’t do so well here. According to a study done by Forbes, Indianapolis was on a top ten list with cities like Dallas and Jacksonville for worst places for couples.
Forbes selected the largest 40 metropolitan areas in the U.S. They collected marriage and divorce statistics for 20-34-year-olds. Also considered were the affordability of a starter home, income disparity, and the availability of family counseling in the area.
Divorce rates in Bible Belt states have been some of the highest in the nation. Typically, only Nevada ranks higher. No doubt this is because of the availability of “quickie” divorces. For big cities, New York had the lowest rate at 44 divorces per 1000 marriages. Compare that to Indianapolis at 143 per 1000 marriages. Who would have guessed?
Given the current state of the economy it’s not hard to understand why financial issues would have so much to do with divorce. These days adults in their 20’s and 30’s have a tremendous amount of debt. That burden becomes a huge strain on a relationship.
While this younger age group might not be familiar with the song, Billy Joel touched on this dynamic in one of his old songs, Italian Restaurant:
“They started to fight when the money got tight, and they just didn’t count on the tears …”
Not counting on the fighting and the crying could be one reason why young couples derail early on. Tears will certainly come at some point in any relationship. Fighting or arguing will also happen. Conflict is inevitable. However, to clarify, physical abuse is not an acceptable part of fighting in a marriage and should not be tolerated.
The crying and arguing don’t signal the end of a relationship as many young people might assume. Marital counseling can help a couple work through emotional issues like financial problems and find resolution.
Don’t give up at the first sign of trouble or difficulty. Sometimes talking to a wise friend or another couple can bring a lot of relief. At other times the insight that a trained professional offers may be the best option. The good news is there are numerous counselors available in a city the size of Indianapolis.
It may be difficult to think about going to marital counseling given the expense involved but keep in mind the real cost of divorce. That is much more expensive. Truthfully, counseling is much more investment than expense. It is an investment in a valuable partnership that can result in many, many happy years.

Wrestlemania 25 official location?
Look, everybody is speculating that Reliant Stadium in Houston Texas is the official site of Wrestlemania 25. It isn’t.
Most pro wrestling sites are “speculating cofirmation”. Well, I got news for all of you quite literally. I live in Indianapolis Indiana, home of the world champion Indianapolis Colts and there new home Lucas Oil Stadium (Capacity 80,000) . It was reported in the Indianapolis Star that WWE chairman Vince McMahon and Indy mayor Greg Ballard have worked out a deal to hold Wrestlemania 25 at the Lucas Oil Stadium, final details such as actual date are not yet released. Expect WWE to make an announcement on RAW Monday April 7th. But I am also concerned that Houston did make an announcement that Vince was also interested in holding it there. Besides my little newspaper column, can anyone give me FACTUAL proof to insure my uneasy self that Indy aint going to lose this event to Houston?
They advertised WM25 during WM24. They showed the logo, date, and place of where it will be held.

The event will take place on Sunday, April 5, 2009. The Reliant Stadium opened in 2002 and was the first football stadium to have a retractable roof.
