Is the “culture of fear” killing us all, not just the BBC?

‘Stephen Fry has said there is a culture of fear at the BBC which is creating “incredibly bland” programmes.
The host of BBC Two’s QI told the Radio Times executives with “cold feet” were shying away from taking creative risks.
“A lot of the adventure and excitement have gone out of television programming and a lot of it is just down to fear.”
Anti-BBC rhetoric in some newspapers was compounding the situation, he said. The BBC was not immediately available to respond to Fry’s comments.’

Yes it is and has been at work for some years now. The BBC is bending over backward to sound reasonable and to be”all things to all men” in its world service.
They are not alone in this. As Deighton (on here) has pointed out it exists even here on Q+A.
I find myself holding back on some comments so as not to upset people, some of whom send the rudest letters to me. Mostly I don’t care what they say, but it does bother me that they exist at all, and wander the streets of the internet hoping to cause distress.

Growth of BBC News And Its Various Wings Such As Sports, Entertainment And News.
The British Broadcasting Corporation is one of the largest broadcasting corporations in the world. This department is responsible for gathering and producing news and news programs for the network. Formerly called British News and Current Affairs, BBC News now has an output of 120 hours on a daily basis.
BBC News being a quasi- autonomous institution does not conform itself to the Government of United Kingdom. Along its other services, BBC broadcasts to the world through BBC World Service via the radio, television and online portal giving information and news in almost 32 languages. The World Service is funded through a grant given by the government and not by the license fee.
The commercial arm of BBC is called BBC Worldwide and is responsible for selling DVD’s, publishing books and merchandise along with selling programs at an international level. This channel had made a profit of approximately £103 million in the year 2008/09. The profits that this channel earns go back to the BBC for further investment in new services as well as programs. In April 2009, they were given the Queens Award for responsibly building BBC’s reputation on a global platform and encouraging the company’s overseas growth in revenue as well.
BBC Sports news covers all the going ons in the world of sport across the world. From football, rugby, tennis, golf, athletics, motorsports, boxing, snooker, horse racing and cricket, they also cover sporting events such as the Paralympics. They are also the official Olympic broadcasters. Along with giving live coverage to a number of sporting events, BBC Sports news gives you statistical data, performance reviews, coverage guides, scores and fixtures of almost all games. Their sports coverage is detailed and extensive and caters to all its viewers. Along with sports news they also give news and information regarding the sport stars and the drama that revolves around them. It can be very safely assumed that they cover any event that happens in the world of sport.
Sky News is the only other television network that stands as its able competitor. With the introduction of Sky Sports and Sky Sports News, the viewership of BBC sports news has been affected to an extent.
In 2006, BBC News became a part of the BBC Journalism group as a part of the BBC restructuring plan. Helen Boaden continued her role as the Director for BBC News and Mark Byford was appointed the head of the new group.
