Earthquake in the question! Help I'm worried!?
Well, I'm watching the news coverage on the earthquake in Japan that has happened this morning, and it's really scary. I feel horrible for all concerned! My question is, is there any possibility of a major earthquake hits western New York (near New York and Buffalo)? I live near there and I do not think you have had an earthquake here, but I'm worried because it seems that the earthquakes have been happening lately more frequently. Could our buildings strong enough to handle an earthquake? I do not think we have to worry about tsunamis, because I do not live near an ocean … I'm afraid of a big earthquake! Can anyone tell me if I live in a large plate (or what happens because of an earthquake) and if there is any possibility of a major earthquake hit my house? Thank you very much!
Relax. The chances of a major earthquake in the area are almost zero. A large earthquake requires either a fault zone, as that along the Pacific coast, or a rift zone in the center of the continent, as well as between St. Louis and Memphis. Your area might get an earthquake as large as about 4.5, but even those are extremely rare. Like one every 200 years or so.

College Basketball News
After taking the number one spot from Kansas this week the Texas Longhorns have already been dethroned by the ninth ranked Kansas State Wildcats. In what was suppose to be a battle of big men somebody forgot to relay that to the Longhorns whose team combined for a woeful 36% shooting from the field and an awful 9 of 22 from the free throw line. Even though the Wildcats did not shoot much better from the field, they were able to hit 20 of their 32 free throws on they’re way to a 71-62 victory at home.
In other top 25 news the fifth ranked Syracuse Orange were able to hold of a pesky Notre Dame who lived up to their Fighting Irish name in a close game. Even though the outcome was 84-71 the game was a lot closer then it looks. Irish received good output from Tim Ambromaitis 26 points, Tory Jackson 15 assist, and All American candidate Luke Harongody who finished with 31 points and 14 rebounds. But the Orange was just to much in the end thanks to the depth of their team they were able to outlast Notre Dame at the end to move to an impressive 16-1 overall record and 5-1 in the Big East.
Women’s College Basketball
The University of Connecticut Huskies women’s Basketball team improved to an impressive 18-0 record this year. The lady huskies are on a 57 game winning streak and just dominated seventh ranked Duke easily winning 81-48. It looked close at halftime with the Huskies only up by ten points, but the second half proved to much for Duke as they looked overwhelmed playing against arguably the best ever women’s team in college basketball history.
