Camping in Newport News, Virginia area?

I have a friend who is a freshman at the campsite, but her boyfriend wants to take you on a tour of two weeks this summer, so it gets depends on the prepared for the test. I am a seasoned outdoor girl myself, but I'm not familiar with camping in the Newport area News, and all sites I've found for "Camping car" are too close to the road for my taste. Because she is a city girl think that isolation is what bothered him most. We are close to three hours from the southern most point of Shenandoah National Park but she has no desire to sit at the unit. Any Beginners welcome suggestions for sites that are not right on the roads? Thanks in advance!

I must admit, I had a bit of a shock.

I went to Virginia Aquarium (formerly the Virginia Marine Science Center) expect find the free form, using my card ASTC Passport program (which provides free access to science museums across the country participating.)

Oops. In Despite the "science", the name, Virginia Aquarium is an aquarium really considered (hey, this is perhaps why he changed his name?). So do not meet the Science Museum membership cards.

But for what it offers, Virginia Aquarium is cheap, and worth the price.

Highlights:

  • 700,000 liters of tank (s)
  • 300 hands of exhibitions and buttons to push
  • "Alligators Alive" exhibition (until May) with a live albino alligator
  • IMAX 3D
  • Touch tanks where they can touch and / or collect horseshoe crabs and sea stars
  • 1 / 3 mile nature trail which can see bald eagles, eagles and other animals Wild on the road or an observation tower 30 feet

At $ 11.95 for adults, is half the price of the Aquarium Baltimore, and 60% less than the new Georgia Aquarium. (Besides, there are ways to save on tickets. … See below)

Then he holds the VA itself with other museums for fish? Sure.

My favorite part? Its fascinating, two-storey fish from floor to ceiling "wall". The rest of the room and the floor is dark, and a natural silence seems to fall on visitors to enter.

Sit quietly, and you can imagine, it is in the bottom of the sea (with lots of oxygen, of course). It is incredibly relaxing to watch fish swim smoothly, and feel your worries wash.

My dear children, especially the touch tanks (if you're a type of contact tank, you can see Virginia Living Museum in Newport News). You will find the right to maintain (and children) for hours. And on a hot day, is happily with air conditioning.

The Virginia Aquarium excitement does not stop at its walls. They also offer a range of truly unique "extra" programs that you find difficult to match elsewhere:
